Nuffield Dyspraxia Program, Third Edition (NDP3) uses a motor learning approach to build skills from single speech sounds to connected speech. NDP3 includes materials to choose your targets and visuals.
Children who are 3-7 years old with Severe SSD and CAS. Children must have the attention span to sit at a table and look at visuals to participate successfully in this program.
You will determine the child’s phonemic repertoire. Teach the child the associated picture cues with the phonemes in their repertoire. You will elicit the missing sounds in their repertoire providing as much support as needed (description of correct articulatory placement, modeling, visual feedback, tactile stimulation, etc).
You will start with 4-6 cards and slowly build speech sound associations. Frequent repetitive practice of new targets will assist in building a motor plan. The targets should be practiced daily until the child reaches 90% accuracy. Introduce contrastive sequencing using the NDP3 worksheets. You should slowly build the level of difficulty when comparing phonemes, start with maximally different phonemes then move to more closely related phonemes.
Next, you will introduce CV words that the child cannot produce accurately, combine two known targets to build off of motor planning. Compare and contrast CV targets the child can produce and CV targets that are difficult for the child to produce.
When the child can produce a variety of consonants, vowels, CV syllables and words they can move to stage 2.
Target CVCV and CVC words.
Target phrases using words in the child’s repertoire.
Practice target words at sentence level and connected speech including variations in intonation, rate and rhythm.

4x week in blocks of 12 to 15 sessions of 45-60 minutes with 4-6 week break between blocks. This can be modified with adequate parent training of 15-20 minutes for 4-5 days per week.
